"The person who knows Verone as Nathaniel, not the office."
That's Jon Smiles. He's human, and his file lists no powers.
The anchor
The mantle wants Verone's name. "Verone needs something to prove he's Nathaniel, not the office." Smiles is the primary anchor, first of the seven kept under The Mantle, and of everything he does, that comes first.
His one key relationship is Verone.
Stillwell
They meet at Stillwell, Indiana. The scene is filed under The Stillwell Case.
Manner
"Witness, conscience, procedural mind, human-law counterweight." Formal, procedural, a professional to the bone, and "Not privy to cosmic jokes."
He's an FBI agent. His face isn't written down.
How he talks: "Apologies for not getting here faster."
Verone calls him Jon.
