A drive-in and backroad circuit with the calendar nailed to the late fifties and early sixties: greased hair, cuffed jeans, hot rods in the lot, a sock hop going on in a nuclear-age diner. The profile has it "era-locked in a perpetual late-1950s/early-1960s Americana."
Finding
Nothing in it got a later year. The record office reads that as the last thing it did, and enters no time of death.
Johnny Deuce doesn't age between sessions. Intake photographs of him, laid out in a row, pass for the same afternoon.
Objection
The survivor disputes the finding.
In interviews he's all smile and pomade and good manners. The wonderful world he keeps inviting people back to is on no map the station owns. He says we've been missing it. He says it like it is good news.
Intake
Three. Johnny Deuce, vocals and guitar. Sonny Beale, upright bass. Frankie Dell, drums. His note says "Always one count too eager." The record office stopped correcting that in the log.
The rule
Join the Cult runs two minutes and airs on the hour by station policy. Nobody on staff remembers writing the rule down, only that it is followed. It sits on the schedule in a hand the record office doesn't recognize.
